Trainee US Tax Associate

To undertake and support the team with regular and ad hoc tasks to ensure timely and accurate submission of US and UK tax returns on behalf of our clients.

You will be educated to A level standard or above, and have a passion for researching complex tax matters. Ideally you will have some accounting or tax experience, but full training will be given in this niche sector.

Person Specification

Organised, with high level of attention to detail and ability to process large amounts of technical information.

Ability to work under pressure and to deadline.

Clear written and oral communication skills, with an ability to explain complex concepts succinctly and accurately.

Experience of formal writing / ability to draft statements beneficial.

Ability to work under own initiative and to carry out self-directed research, reporting to seniors as required.

Advanced Excel and email skills with a general high standard of IT competence.

Willingness to learn technical aspects of both US & UK tax law.

Key Responsibilities

Liaising with clients to explain their tax reporting obligations, notifying them of upcoming deadlines, and requesting the tax documentation needed to complete their annual filing.

Logging incoming tax information, checking for accuracy and compliance with IRS reporting requirements.

Preparation of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts reports, proactively querying clients to verify accuracy of data and to highlight possible new reporting requirements for the year.

Preparation of tax return schedules: accurately capturing relevant information from income reporting forms.

Preparation of UK tax returns for individuals.

Ad hoc tasks as required.
